Blog Post #6

I learned from the interview that we definately have more luxories than they used to have. The main thing that I noticed was that girls have a lot more freedom now than they did over 50 years ago. What surprised me was how little my grandma got paid for working. My grandma worked at the dance hall that her family owned, so she worked when she was told and did what she had to do without thinking about it. I realize I have a lot more freedon with my decisions, my extracurricular activities, and how I spend my freetime. I would not have wanted to live back then. I would have died not being able to play sports and wear sweatpants.

The Parenting and Adolescence video was a different point of view I didn't realize. It was interesting to hear the different views. My time as an adolescent has had its ups and downs but it has made me the person I am today. Everthing that I have done as an adolescent will impact my future, especially with how I end up raising my own adolescents.

In chapter 4 I learned taht our peers have a mojor impact on us. Peers influence learning cooperation, popularity, and our interactions of our age group. My friends do influence my life in many ways, they help me through my problems, they make me laugh and they help me spot the lies in other people. My friends are a great deal of my life.

In chapter 5 I learned about the three parenting styles: Authoritarian, Permissive, and Authoritative. My parents are authoritative, they are demanding and responsive. My parents set rules but explain their rules and actions and allow exceptions for differnt situations.

  1. Aleena I agree with you 100% I could never have lived over 50 years ago in the time period that my grandma did. You mentioned that your grandma worked and got paid, while my grandma mentioned she didn't have a choice to work besides the usually babysitting. It is very interesting to realize the difference in freedom that women have between the time periods. I also would have to agree with what you learned in chapter 4 about the impact peers have a person. A lot of us wouldn't admit the influence other teens have on us but really everyone has an impact whether it is a good or bad one.

  2. I agree entirely that today, we have so much more luxuries than our granparents had. Like yours, my grandparents worked and did those chores because it was just something that needed to be done. I also agree that a woman's life was a lot harder, even in our parent's era. My mom told me that her mom and dad would not let her wear jeans to school. Therefore, she packed jeans in her backpack and changed when she got to school! Although I believe that I could have probably lived comfortably 50 years ago, it would probably be less fun and even more exhausting than my life today!
